United Way Helps Local Families Get Insured
HealthConnect Makes Health Care More Affordable
Madison, WI (October 31, 2018) – As part of United Way’s commitment to ensuring that health issues are identified and treated early,
United Way is helping local families and individuals afford health insurance through its HealthConnect premium assistance program for the
sixth straight year.
The latest US Census data reports that approximately 21,600 Dane County residents were uninsured in 2017. HealthConnect eases the
financial burden of having health care coverage for low-income residents of our community.
HealthConnect is not health insurance, but rather subsidizes the cost of an individual or family’s insurance premium for Silver level cost-
share reduction (CSR) health plans purchased through the Health Insurance Marketplace (Healthcare.gov). HealthConnect pays the balance
of the monthly health insurance premium that is not covered by the Premium Tax Credit available through the Marketplace.
Thanks to UW Health for their financial support of this program.
You are eligible to enroll in HealthConnect if you:
• Are a resident of Dane County
• Purchase a Silver level CSR (Cost Share Reduction) plan from any Dane County health insurance provider through Healthcare.gov
• Have a household income between 100-150% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) (That means between $12,140 and $18,210 per year for
a single individual, and between $25,100 and $37,650 for a family of four.)
Nearly 2,000 Dane County residents have benefited from this program since
HealthConnect launched in 2014.
One 2017 HealthConnect subsidy recipient tells us, “I run a risk in my profession
being exposed to illness so now I have peace of mind that I can live safer and
healthier. One incident could bankrupt me so it has been great knowing I'm
